NEW at SFD

NEW: Basic Photography for Fashion Designer

with professional photographer Tracy Aiguier

This workshop is designed to give the upcoming fashion designer the skills and understanding necessary to execute a successful fashion photo shoot, be it on their own or when hiring a team of professionals. The class will discuss the various trends and styles of fashion photography, basic photographic techniques used, and communicating with models, makeup artists, hair stylists, and photographers to achieve the photos that best show off their designs.

The class will spend time on lighting and posing demonstrations, both in the studio and on location, giving the designer the opportunity to play the part of the photographer as well as the model. Working with the instructor’s guidance, all participants will be required to put together their very own photo shoot, which will then be critiqued at the final review class.

A graduate of the Art Institute of Boston, Tracy Aiguier has been shooting fashion and portraits in the Boston area for close to 20 years. She has shot national catalogs, covers and editorial spreads for both local and national magazines, CD covers, as well as look books, advertising and websites for many local fashion designers, and retailers. tracyaiguier.com

Sessions: June 14th, 21th, 28th & July 12th

FASHION AT THE MOVIES

Eleven Minutes will be shown as part of Boston's Independent Film Festival. If winning Bravo's Project Runway fashion design competition only grants you 15 minutes of fame, imagine the overwhelming anxiety and terror of using 11 of those minutes to reveal your soul to the world through fashion. ELEVEN MINUTES chronicles a year in the life of designer and first-ever Project Runway winner Jay McCarroll as he prepares for his first runway show at Bryant Park's famed Fashion Week. Incredibly candid and surprisingly raw, this fast-paced, intimate documentary exposes not only the harsh realities of the industry, but the inconvenient truth that even if you are able to compete in and win a popular reality-show competition, you still can't easily gain the respect of the demanding fashion elite.

This movie is playing:
Monday, April 28th @ 8:30 PM at the Somerville Theater
