 FASHION FRIDAYS

This year the School of Fashion Design will be continuing the very successful Fashion Fridays series over the summer in a whole new way -- on film!

We will be filming a series of studio shows featuring SFD alumni (both established and new faces). Dana Moscardelli & Lisa Cataneo of Finer Threads will work with these designers to select a group of garments that best represent their collections. Models from both Dynasty Models and Tonn Model Management are already on board to walk the runway. The shows will be treated this much like editorial fashion photo shoots - they'll just be moving pictures!

The fashion film shorts will be screened at the school on Fridays at noon throughout the summer (June/July/August) on the huge picture window facing Newbury Street which will be transformed into a huge screen! Passers-by will see different designer each week (each designer will be screened twice throughout the summer). The designer roster includes: 4march, Daniela Corte, Daniel Faucher, Fiandaca, Denise Hajjar, Myre Designs and okw. Later in the season clips from the series will also be featured online.

 BELLE OF THE BALL

SFD is proud to have a team of design students serving as personal shoppers for Belle of the Ball. The team is being coordinated by Susie Gaydos.

Sponsored by Anton’s Cleaners, a family-owned chain of 43 stores in Eastern Massachusetts and Southern New Hampshire, Belle of the Ball cleans and distributes prom dresses to high school junior and senior girls who would otherwise not have the opportunity to attend their school’s prom.

BOSTON FASHION WEEK UPDATE

Preparations are underway for Boston week-long celebration of style!

Boston's fashion frontier has never been more potent with possibilities! Fashion professionals throughout the city and beyond are already hard at work planning fashion shows, special events and promotions.

The official Boston Fashion Week website has been re-launched! It is a great resource for anyone who is interested in registering an event, wishes to volunteer or simply wants keep up with all the exciting news relating to fashion in Boston.

The return of Boston Fashion Week signals a new generation of design talent joining the ranks of those who have already made a name for themselves here.

In addition to having had an overwhelmingly enthusiastic response from local industry leaders, the press has also embraced the return of Boston Fashion Week. Christopher Muther’s recent piece in the Boston Globe’s Style Section (02.15.07) really hit the mark. We're so proud of alumni Daniela Corte ('99) Jess Meyer ('06), Amy Ozay ('04) and Melissa Villa ('06) who were featured in the story!

modelBOSTON 2007

This year Viewfinder Productions teams up with Boston Fashion Week to re-launch modelBOSTON!

The team at Viewfinder, Kristie Babbin and Tracy Bennett Stewart will be heading the search for the faces of Boston fashion for 2007.

After the open calls, thirty semi-finalists will be chosen. They will represent Boston’s best new male and female models. Those thirty will be celebrated at an exclusive event that will launch a week of online voting, when the public can weigh in on the decision of who will go on to take part in five produced photo shoots with leading fashion photographers.

After one week of voting the top ten will become finalists and be reviewed by a panel of industry leaders who will ultimately choose the top male and female model.

The whole process will be recorded for posterity in a film that will document the entire experience and be screened during Boston Fashion Week this fall with an exhibit featuring the photographs by each of the participating photographers.
