 ALUM ALERT

"Exploring the realm between art and commerce,
"Fashion Photography" displays expressive poses,
daring couture, and the aura of glamour captured
by the great fashion image-makers of the past
hundred years."

Photography and fashion have been inextricably linked since the early 1900s, when fashion magazines rocketed to popularity. In "Fashion Photography," on view in the Trustman Galleries, you can explore fashion photography of the past hundred years by the field's most significant image-makers.

SFD is proud that alumna and photographer Marie Cosindas is featured among the collection of world famous fashion photographers in this exhibit. You can see more of her work through the Robert Klein Gallery at 38 Newbury Street.

The exhibit is on display thru March 25th.

NEWS

After a brief hiatus Boston Fashion Week is back, and better than ever! The week has been scheduled for September 7-14, 2007. So, mark your calendars now and SAVE THE DATES!

SFD recently hosted the launch with over four dozen industry leaders representing many different fashion disciplines including design, beauty, photography, modeling, education, retail, production, music and technology to name a few.

Organizers are moving forward with an exciting new plan that offers something for everyone. Exciting runway shows will of course be an expected part of the week but innovative new programming will also include fashion films, red carpet premieres, shopping opportunities, fashion art installations and informative educational events.

Technology will also play a major role. A completely renovated official Boston Fashion Week website will be launched later this month. The redesign will allow greater access and interactivity.

  OPPOSITES ATTRACT

At the School of Fashion Design, one of the projects in Daniel Faucher's draping class is the Black & White. Using the principles of positive/negative -- white to enhance and black to detract -- students create a specific silhouette or desired effect in the most flattering lines to the human form.

A selection of these creations is now on exhibit in the A Gallery featuring student designers Lanice Caine, Linda Elaz, Sofia Gagua, Jiminie Hayward, Tedi Hughes & Shirley Straface.

ART OF FASHION

"a hit...its beauty deceptively guised in its simplicity."
— The New York Times

Paris is the undisputed center of the fashion world, and "Fashion Show: Paris Collections 2006" demonstrates why fashion remains a fine art. Featuring runway garments from the spring and fall/winter collections of ten influential couturiers and designers, the exhibition explores the ideas and inspirations motivating Paris fashion today, and why, in an age of globalization and instantaneous communication, this venerable city remains the fashion capital.

The designers highlighted in this exhibition—Azzedine Alaia, Hussein Chalayan, Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel, John Galliano for Christian Dior, Christian Lacroix, Maison Martin Margiela, Olivier Theyskens for Rochas, Valentino, Viktor & Rolf, and Yohji Yamamoto—bring a unique and clear vision to their work, while still maintaining the high level of craftsmanship for which Paris is justly famous.

SFD students recently explored the installation as part of their studies. We encourage everyone to experience these works up close and in person to gain a greater appreciation for the art of fashion.

This exhibit is on display thru March 25
