The summer session
of fashion courses is about to start!
HEAD START ON STYLE
The School of Fashion Design also offers
a program for the next generation of young designers,
the High School Prep Program. Offered throughout the
year, this program provides high school students a
nurturing environment to test their interest in fashion,
explore their talents and get a jumpstart on their
dreams. The course includes fashion art and clothing
construction. It is being offered twice this summer.
DIGITAL DESIGN
The Computer Aided Design courses at the
School of Fashion Design have been designed to expose
design students to the virtual tools available through
Gerber software. These courses are also structured to
encourage analytical thinking and utilize creative
problem solving so that with minor modifications a
designer can become acclimated to most systems used in
the industry. |

Fashion Fridays will transform Newbury Street
once again with hot
summer fashions by local designers!
All shows will be produced by

came out for Collection 2006.
Among the many accolades after this year's presentation
were the following comments by Robert Rutkauskas,
President of SFD's Board of Trustees:
"Sitting next
to Dawn Mello, the ultimate fashion professional, and
hearing her candid comments, quote ...,"That figure
could be sold at retail today", "These students are
outstanding", "This shows content could compete with
designer shows I have attended". Dawn was very
impressed with the students and the school.
Ms. Janet Chute
on the other side of me during the luncheon, could not
stop commenting on the finishing and the fit of the
garments.
The show was
really a showcase of the talent, interest and care of
the students, faculty and the administration. I can't
personally say enough to congratulate all of you.
It made me very
proud to be associated with the school."

Exceptional design students were recognized with special
awards during the 2006 commencement exercises.
The newest
addition to the honors was the
Fruitful Award
established by Viola Gonzalez in honor of her
late father Fructuoso (which means fruitful in
Spanish) and presented to a Level One
student for excellence in fashion art.

CHRISTMAS IN JULY |

Next month the
School of Fashion Design will be celebrating
Christmas in July. The
month long event will feature an installation called
Artful Accessories. The
exhibit will include the artistic accessory creations by
local designers and SFD alumni.
SFD will also host a
SIDEWALK SALE on
Saturday, July 22nd. |
