DAY SCHEDULE: SEPT. 8th – DEC. 18th


THE COMPUTER AIDED DESIGN COURSES at SFD have been designed to expose students -- who have demonstrated a mastery of core production and art skills -- to the virtual tools available through CAD software. These courses are also structured to encourage analytical thinking and utilize creative problem solving so that with minor modifications a designer can become acclimated to most systems used in the industry.

CAD FOR FASHION DESIGN – APPAREL I Friday @ 9:00 am – 12:30 pm
Pattern manipulation, grading and marker making
Software: Accumark – Gerber Technology
September 10th though December 10th

Prerequisite: Comprehension of patternmaking, grading, marker making and construction;
a fundamental understanding of the Windows environment.



CAD FOR FASHION DESIGN: APPAREL II Friday @ 1:00 pm – 4:30 pm
Advanced pattern manipulation, grading and marker making
Software: Accumark – Gerber Technology
September 10th though December 10th

Prerequisite: Command of CAD for Fashion Design – Apparel I


CAD FOR FASHION DESIGN – ART I Monday @ 9:00 am – 12:30 pm
Design print, woven & knit textiles. Render technical sketches. Color and drape textiles on fashion images. Develop virtual presentation boards.
Software: Vision Fashion Studio & Draping – Gerber Technology & Adobe Illustrator
September 13th through December 13th

Prerequisite: Comprehension of textiles, sketching and portfolio presentation;
a fundamental understanding of the Windows environment.



CAD FOR FASHION DESIGN – ART II Wednesday @ 9:00 am – 12:30 pm
Advanced projects in design print, woven & knit textiles. Render technical sketches. Color and drape textiles on fashion images. Develop virtual presentation boards.
Software: Vision Fashion Studio & Draping – Gerber Technology & Adobe Illustrator

CHILDREN’S WEAR DESIGN Tues/Thurs @ 2:40 pm – 4:20 pm
Principles and methods of drafting patterns for children’s wear. Professional construction techniques; special detail for children’s wear.
Prerequisite: Construction and Patternmaking I & II

CLOTHING CONSTRUCTION
Practical projects in fabricating garments; stylized and fitted muslins, selection and preparation of fabric, cutting, matching, hand sewing and industrial machine stitching, lining, pressing detailing and finishing.

The principles of color: theory, value, harmony. Color in line, form, space, and texture. Color in balance, proportion, harmony, and emphasis. Color in textile art and design. Principles of good design: balance, proportion, harmony, and emphasis. Applications of these principles to practical problems of fashion designs

FASHION SKETCHING

Application of the principles of good design to fashion and techniques of presenting designs on paper; i.e., croquis, costume anatomy, media, fabric renderings, the fashion figure (designer workroom plates).

Introduction of forming muslin patterns created directly on the dress form in the French manner. Projects include black and whites, change of fabric and geometric.

PATTERNMAKING
Principles, techniques and practice in making patterns for women’s garments via the flat (drafted) method. Basic slopers and stylized patterns.

THE SCHOOL OF FASHION DESIGN POLICIES

CLASS HOURS – GRADES – CREDITS: ALL COURSES ARE FOR 45 CLASS HOURS, MEETING EITHER ONCE OR TWICE A WEEK FOR LECTURE/STUDIO/LAB. FOR EACH HOUR OF CLASS, AN INSTRUCTOR EXPECTS A MINIMUM OF TWO HOURS OF HOMEWORK.


TUITION – SUPPLIES – FEES: TUITION IS $1,080 PER INDIVIDUAL COURSE PLUS THE REGISTRATION FEE. A DETAILED SUPPLY LIST FOR EACH COURSE ACCOMPANIES THE FINAL TUITION BILLING, WHICH IS DUE BEFORE SEPTEMBER 1 (JAN. 1, JUNE 1). FOR REGISTRATION AND/OR TUITION AND SUPPLY ORDERS RECEIVED AFTER SEPTEMBER 1 (JAN. 1, JUNE 1), THERE IS A $25 LATE REGISTRATION FEE AND A $25 LATE SUPPLY FEE, AND PAYMENTS MUST BE MADE IN THE FORM OF A MONEY ORDER OR BANK CHECK. NO PERSONAL CHECKS ACCEPTED AFTER SEPTEMBER 1 (JAN. 1, JUNE 1). ALL STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO PREPAY ONCE DURING THE CALENDAR YEAR (WHICH BEGINS JUNE 1) THE $100 FASHION SHOW SUBSCRIPTION FEE (WHICH INCLUDES PARTICIPATION IN THE FASHION SHOW VIA GARMENTS AND/OR SKETCHES, AS WELL AS TWO TICKETS TO SFD’S ANNUAL FASHION SHOW).

DESIGN PROCESS: ALL COURSES INVOLVING GARMENTS PRESUME THAT THEY ARE MADE UP IN STANDARD MODEL SIZES (8, 10, and 12). ALL DESIGNS ARE TO BE SUBMITTED TO FACULTY FOR CROQUIS REVIEW, MUSLIN REVIEW, DIRECTOR’S CRIT, AND JUDGING (SELECTION MADE FOR FASHION SHOW PRESENTATION). ALL GARMENTS MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY A FINAL PROSPECTUS OR PLATE (SWATCHED SKETCH).

NO REFUND POLICY: ALL TUITION PREPAID IS FOR A SPECIFIC COURSE AND FOR A SPECIFIC TERM. TUITIONS ARE NON-REFUNDABLE FOR WHATEVER REASON, AND ARE NOT CREDITABLE TOWARDS OTHER COURSES OR OTHER TERMS. SFD RESERVES THE RIGHT TO CANCEL COURSES FOR WHICH THERE ARE INSUFFICIENT ENROLLMENTS, OR TO RESCHEDULE COURSES BECAUSE OF TIME CONFLICTS. ONLY IN THE CASE OF COURSES CANCELLED OR RESCHEDULED PRIOR TO THE START OF A SEMESTER IS PREPAID TUITION REFUNDABLE.

ATTENDANCE
STUDENTS MUST ATTEND A MINIMUM OF 90% OF INDIVIDUAL COURSE CLASSES FOR GRADE/CREDIT.
STUDENTS WISHING TO WITHDRAW FROM A CLASS OR FROM THE COMPLETE PROGRAM MUST SO STATE IN WRITING TO THE DIRECTOR BY FILING THE OFFICIAL FORM FOR SUCH. ABSENCE FROM CLASSES DOES NOT CONSTITUTE WITHDRAWAL. WITHDRAWAL UP TO MID-SEMESTER IS RECORDED AS A "W" WITH NO GRADE AS OF DATE; THERE IS NO OFFICIAL WITHDRAWAL AFTER MID-SEMESTER.

DISMISSAL
SFD RESERVES THE RIGHT TO DISMISS ANY STUDENT PROVEN GUILTY OF BREACH OF ETHICS, MORALS OR CRIMINAL OFFENSE.
