SFD offers exclusive curricula in the applied art of fashion design.

 

Inspiration: where to find it, from history or geography, from fabric or form, from color, line or texture, from season, occasion or occupation.

 

Design: sketched, paper drafted, muslin draped, stylized and sized, from picture to pattern.

 

Construction: fabric selection and cutting, lining, underlining, interfacing, machine stitching and hand finishing, dressmaking and tailoring.

 

Detail: individual ornamentation, signature personality.

 

Accessorization: coordinated millinery, jewelry, footwear, gloves, handbags, appropriate underpinnings.

 

Presentation: promotion, illustration, modeling, commentary, fashion show production, visual merchandising.

 

SFD emphasizes apparel classic as well as innovative; preparing students for “The Industry” (ready-to-wear/mass production), The Boutique (limited editions) and the Haute Couture (exclusive custom design) aspects of fashion.

 

SFD offers full and part time study, day and evening schedules in individual subjects as well as certificate/diploma programs. A student also enjoys the convenience of commencing study in September (fifteen week fall semester), January (fifteen week spring semester) or June (ten week summer session).
