SFD is a studio school focused on fashion design. We do not require students to take English, Math, or other general education courses, therefore, we do not accept federal financial aid; however
SFD tuition is set reasonably with student expenses in mind, and tuition payments are broken down into a manageable payment schedule. Students taking courses full time are generally able to complete the program in two years, and should not expect to carry student loan debt upon graduation. Some students also elect to take classes on a part time basis.
At SFD, we are committed to doing everything we can to work with incoming students to ensure everyone who is interested is able to complete our program.
We offer a number of scholarships; some for full time study, some for full or part time:

Students from around the globe attend the School of Fashion Design! We are proud of the diversity of our student population and consider it an important part of the student experience at SFD.
Application procedures for international students are the same as those for US born students. The only additional requirements for international students are:
• You will be asked to submit financial documents, such as a bank statement in English, verifying your ability to reside in the US for at least one year, and
• You are required to prepay first year tuition and fees in full.
Per the Department of Homeland Security international students are required to register with SEVIS. The School of Fashion Design is authorized under federal law to enroll non-immigrant alien students. International students in need of visa processing (I-20 form) are required to prepay their first academic year's full tuition (ten courses/two semesters) and first year's required supplemental fees, supplies textbooks and kits. Students are also required to present credentials in support of financial feasibility to live at least one academic year in Boston (sufficient funds for housing, food and other necessities). SFD reminds international students that normally they may not be employed while in this country.
TOEFEL scores are not required to attend, however, instruction at SFD is conducted in English and a mastery of the language is necessary.
The School of Fashion Design does not and shall not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion (creed), gender, gender expression, age, national origin (ancestry), disability, marital status, sexual orientation, or military status, in any of its activities or operations.
We always welcome prospective students to tour the school and sit in on one of our studio classes. The School of Fashion Design offers five levels of studio classrooms, a computer lab, resource library and archives, and the A Gallery. The A Gallery, which features an elegant two-story window looking out onto Newbury Street, is an important part of the SFD student experience. Monthly fashion exhibits allow students to showcase their work to hundreds of thousands who walk and drive down Boston’s most renowned fashion avenue.
